This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge to address challenges in storing and handling bulk powders specific to pharmaceutical manufacturing and to provide insight into the critical role of material properties in maintaining product quality and ensuring process efficiency. This course will also highlight exploring compliance with industry standards, including cGMP and regulatory guidelines. With an emphasis on practical aspects of technology, we’ll begin with a comprehensive introduction to give a basic understanding of the operation of hoppers and silos, before moving on to more detailed work. We’ll use case studies throughout to illustrate the presentations, with plenty of discussion periods so that we can analyse any specific problems experienced by attendees. We’ll cover the basics in operation, design and specification including an introduction to the storage and flow of bulk solid materials in hoppers, silos, bins and bunkers, feeders and feeding, hopper discharge aids and the prediction of discharge rates focussing on pharmaceutical materials (API, Excipients, Co-Excipients, Glidants, Flow Agents). We will also look closely at ways to determine the correct design for reliable discharge, including determining flow properties of pharmaceutical materials, hopper geometry and practical design considerations. July 9, 2025: New One day short course: explore best practice and industry; learn about impact of material properties on product quality and process efficiency This new course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and solutions in storing and handling bulk powders used in battery manufacturing, and to explore best practice and industry standards for safe and efficient material handling. The course will also involve the role of material properties in storage and handling, and their impact on product quality and process efficiency. Course presenter, Dr Vivek Garg has been helping companies involved in the manufacture of batteries to better understand the problems encountered when handling and storing these bulk materials and has used this to create a bespoke course for the industry. With an emphasis on the practical aspects of pneumatic conveying technology, these courses provide a comprehensive introduction to the basic operation of pipeline systems before moving on to the more complex calculations used in system design. Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Solids; 14 – 16 May A basic course looking at system components, design techniques, operation and control of blow tank systems, explosion hazards, operational problems as well as interfacing storage bins with conveying systems. It also includes an optional practical workshop. This course will be repeated in October. Pneumatic Conveying System Design; 3 – 4 June An advanced course guiding delegates through the processes on how to obtain pipeline designs that work reliably, delivering the required throughput without unplanned maintenance and negative impact on quality of the powder being handled. 2025 Calendar is out now Experts at the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, at the University of Greenwich in UK are ready to train delegates from the Bulk Bulk Materials Handling Industries. Courses are scheduled through the year, either online or on campus. Registration is now open. Online training We start with a series of online courses, examining the different issues encountered when storing and handling powders and particulate materials. Each course looks at methods to avoid or resolve problems encountered in different situations allowing delegates to gain the knowledge to help troubleshoot issues themselves.
